  Description:
The primary responsibility for this Coordinator position is to build cultural and linguistic diversity within schools by actively collaborating with District leadership, building leaders, instructional coaches, teachers, and others in the development of school supports, coaching goals and action plans, while ensuring coherence and consistency with the D51 Learning Model.  This employee provides a high level of knowledge regarding current English Language Learners and English as a Second Language educational trends, programs and opportunities.  Responsibilities within this area include designing, developing, implementing, monitoring the effectiveness and ensuring continuous improvements of the District’s comprehensive English Language Learners Program.  Programing components include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting instructional programs that recognize the contributions of diverse groups and foster success for ALL students regardless of gender, sex, and/or disabilities;
  • Supporting site leaders in developing school wide systems that ensure ALL students advance toward mastery of the D51 Standards and receive effective literacy and mathematics instruction to include;
  • Ensuring dynamic grade-level innovative programming to align with English language skill development, the students’ needs,and current employment demands;
    • Understanding and championing the use of technology in all supported programs and systems;
    • Collaborating and brainstorming with other departments and leaders to provide essential resources and support for schools;
    • Using data analysis, integration, and evidence-based decision making to analyze the current status of services/offerings and to use student   data as a catalyst for benchmark of growth and continuous improvement of instructional coaching services/offerings,
    • Developing and adjusting curriculum supporting resources that support student mastery of content-specific standards and Colorado English  Language Proficiency Standards (CELP);
    • Working as a change leader in support of district initiatives, teaching innovation, and the pursuit of positive student outcomes,
    • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including students’ families, to promote schools’ efforts to support ALL learners through the   implementation of our competency-based and personalized D51 Learning Model.
  •  Leading the District’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructional Leadership Committee this role works to strategically set     goals and objectives that guide MVCSD51 toward its near-term and long-term future ELD goals.


PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SUPPORTS AND DELIVERY:  Leadership in our dynamic educational organization requires an understanding of the philosophy of standards based education, the D51 Learning Model, the processes of curriculum development and its effectiveness in the school.  Using the data from student leaning the Coordinator facilitates cultural and diversity learning throughout the District designing, delivering, and facilitating learning experiences around these unique needs.  Professional Development delivery expectations include providing a menu of differentiated professional development courses for English language development practitioners, general education teachers, administrators, and special service providers.

  • Promoting methodologies and best practices that align to the Teaching and Learning Framework and are effective in improving outcomes for English language learners;
  • Sharing research, information and or resources (articles, materials, etc.) that align to D51 Standards, the Teaching and Learning Framework, World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA)’s key uses, and support language acquisition;
  •  Supporting ELL Instructional Coaches to promote language centered instructional goals for students and facilitating the development   of processes for dually identified students and for like-peer comparisons;
  •  Collaborating with Special Education department to ensure equitable programming and continued academic progress for English   language learners with specialized learning needs;
  •  Ensuring District-wide collaboration sharing learned strategies for working with English language learners;
  •  Overseeing the coordination of the 5th, 8th, and 12th grade Seal of Biliteracy programs;
  •  Supporting student assessments including WIDA Screener/ACCESS with results used as a catalyst to develop student centered   instruction delivery improvements; 
  •  Coordinating data collection and analysis to monitor English Language Development (ELD) programming and student academic   success during and after receiving English language development services. 


COMMUNITY AND FAMILY OUTREACH: 
This employee is charged with developing and integrating a vision for community and family partnerships within schools and engaging our communities at the District level.  Bringing a mutual understanding of cultural and diversity learning to all stakeholders will require a steadfast and proactive ability to address some embedded biases and beliefs.  Expectations under this responsibility are evolving requiring flexibility, innovation, and a responsiveness of genuine engagement.  Areas of focus are outlined below with an expectation for this work to evolve over time:        

  • Guiding language-focused family engagement activities working with the family liaison to bring schools and families working toward mutual goals; 
  • Promoting community collaboration and two-way communications regarding the needs of our ELL students and their families;
  • Supporting school-wide awareness of the unique needs and experiences of linguistically and culturally diverse families.
  • Responding to teacher, school, parent, and community needs regarding policies, procedures, and programming for English language learners.


Job Summary:
Operating under the general direction of the Executive Director of Student Services, this position functions as a District representative working to advocate for and support Cultural and Linguistic Diversity throughout all schools.  This position works with Interpreters, Instructional Coaches, Building Leaders, Directors, and other Coordinators in aligning to District priorities and to ensure English Language Learners’ (ELL) needs are incorporated into the implementation of the D51 Learning Model.  Other responsibilities include ongoing research and promoting evidence-based teaching practices.  Coordinators help champion the District-wide vision for a commitment to high expectations and for the success of ALL students.  In addition, this position may also oversee a variety of applicable operational duties including developing instructional materials and supports, staffing needs, and managing training obligations.  This Coordinator is a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including families, regarding English Language Development (ELD) and as such must collaborate and facilitate these interactions proactively.

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in education plus additional English Language Learners coursework which certifies endorsement or licensure in this area*
• Minimum of five years’ experience in classroom teacher role;
• Minimum two years of demonstrated professional learning facilitation experience in Performance/Competency-Based system;
• Valid Colorado Teacher’s license with English Language Acquisition or other acceptable endorsement 
• Preference for current Colorado Department of Education Administrator’s or Principal’s license;

Working Conditions:
207 days/year
Salary range $73,056 – 121,271
