The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Clinical Professor, Teaching Track, open rank in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education program for the 2020-2021 academic year, beginning August 10, 2020.

The mission of the CLDE Program at the University of Colorado Denver is to prepare and inspire educators to have a profound impact in fostering equitable linguistically and culturally responsive instruction. Our faculty develop and maintain close partnerships with urban districts and other agencies in the greater Denver Metro area, serving students and families who represent all facets of cultural and linguistic diversity.

The School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) is a leading school of education, providing national expertise on educational issues and socially-just solutions for urban and diverse communities. Located in the heart of downtown Denver, whose population is increasingly diverse (32% Latino, 11% African American), the SEHD has taken a leadership role in preparing professionals to work in diverse schools, agencies and related settings. The SEHD emphasizes working with multiple types of collaborative partnerships including PK-12 schools, local communities, businesses, government agencies, private foundations, and other universities and colleges.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leadership for LatinX EdD concentration area. Responsibilities include: curriculum development, community building including working closely with doctoral students of color, recruitment and fundraising, coordination of admissions and advising, building relationships with affiliate faculty.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in language and literacy development, content learning and assessment for bilinguals, critical approaches and theories, Spanish for educators, foundations of bilingual education, and educational and immigration policy. All CLDE courses are grounded in a strong social justice theoretical framework.
  • Service: Continue to develop partnerships with schools and other agencies to further the goals of the CLDE program and the EdD program (LantinX concentration), service on committees for the  CLDE Program and the School of Education & Human Development

Employment Conditions: 
This is a full-time academic year, non-tenure-track position. Opportunity for summer teaching is available.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A doctorate in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education or related field
  • Commitment to anti-racist, bilingual and culturally sustaining education as evidenced by education, teaching, leadership, and professional affiliations
  • Demonstrated success or potential success for graduate-level teaching and advising as well as undergraduate teaching
  • Successful teaching experience in Pre-K-12 education
  • Experience and/or willingness to teach in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership, especially in bilingual schools and communities, building coalitions and advocating for educational equity
  • Demonstrated bilingual (Spanish and English, preferred) competencies in working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Demonstrated teaching and scholarship related to LatinX education, including an asset-based approach in working with first-generation college students.
