Participation in the contest is prioritized for Colorado students who are enrolled in a bilingual or dual language program in which academic instruction is provided in both English and Spanish or in English and another language, or for secondary students who are pursuing the Seal of Biliteracy. If the student’s school or district does not offer bilingual or dual language education, they must describe how they are developing their bilingualism. Previous winners are not eligible. • Language: Essays may be written in English or another language. However, first place winners should be prepared to present their essays in both English and a second language for the CO-CABE virtual conference on February 16th or 17th, 2022. Presentations should be recorded and submitted by February 10, 2022. Winners will be contacted with further information and instructions.
• Subject: All essays must address learning two languages and being proud to be bilingual.
• Length of essays:
  • Elementary, Grades 3 to 5: 250 word limit
  • Middle School, grades 6 to 8: 500 word limit
  • High School, grades 9 to 12: 750 word limit
• Format: The applicant must fill out the Google Application Form and upload their typed essay as a Word or Google Doc format.

• Copyright: All essays become the property of CO-CABE.

Each essay will be judged on:

1. Development of theme (10%)
2. Originality (20%)
3. Content and clarity of expression (45%)
4. Grammar and mechanics (25%)

Se le da prioridad de participar a alumnos en el estado de Colorado que están matriculados en un programa bilingüe o de lenguaje dual, en el cual se proporciona instrucción académica en inglés y en español o en inglés y en otro idioma, o a estudiantes de secundaria que están buscando obtener El Sello de Bilingüismo. Si la escuela o distrito escolar del estudiante no ofrece un programa bilingüe o de lenguaje dual, el estudiante deberá describir cómo está desarrollando su bilingüismo.Los ganadores de concursos anteriores no pueden participar de nuevo. • Idioma: Los ensayos pueden estar escritos en inglés u otro idioma, sin embargo, los concursantes deberán estar preparados para presentar su ensayo tanto en inglés como en el otro idioma para la conferencia virtual de CO-CABE, el 24 o 25 de febrero del 2021. Las presentaciones deben ser grabadas y entregadas antes del 10 de febrero de 2022. Se contactará a los ganadores con más información e instrucciones.
• Tema: Todos los ensayos deben tratar sobre el aprendizaje de dos idiomas y el sentirse orgulloso(a) de ser bilingüe.

• Formato: El/la concursante debe llenar la solicitud en la forma de Google y subir su ensayo en formato de Word o Google Doc.
